Company Travel Safety Tips

Do you travel for business reasons either occasionally or quite often? Company travel can provide you with a great opportunity to visit new cities and experience travel to locations you may not go to otherwise. But whether you travel for personal reasons or for business, you need to take precautions to ensure your trip is a safe one.

Company Travel Safety Tips

--Research the location where you will be staying. When traveling for business, you will likely be staying at a hotel that is close to your meeting site or convention center. Make sure you are familiar with the area the hotel is located in so you know if it is a safe part of town and safe for you to be out after dark. If you need to travel by car for a distance from your hotel to the meeting place, work out the best route beforehand so you don't take a shortcut through a bad neighborhood.

--Buddy up whenever possible. With company travel, you may have to travel alone a great deal of the time. If possible though, buddy up with a co-worker or a business associate attending the same meeting or convention.

--Be prepared for emergencies. Carry a cell phone, obtain a membership to a roadside service club and be sure your office and family members know your itinerary.

--Leave your valuables at home and don’t carry cash. Pay for your meals with either the company credit card or your own. Don’t carry cash and be careful not to flash around your money when pulling out your credit card.

--Be safety conscious when entering your car or hotel room. Make sure you aren’t being followed. Stay alert. Always lock the doors to both your car and hotel room as soon as you close the door.

--Don’t drink too much alcohol. You may allow yourself to get into dangerous situations if you are under the influence of alcohol. Save the drinking for when you get back home and stay sober and alert while on your business trip.

Luckily most business travelers stay in fine hotels which offer a high degree of security for their guests and if the hotel is attached to the meeting place or convention center, then all the better. Still, you may want to rent a car and get out and experience the new city up close. As long as you remain alert to potential danger and know your surroundings as well as possible, then you can relax and enjoy your trip. Remember that just because your trip is for company travel, it is no reason to be any less security conscious than you would be on a personal vacation.
